Gum graft surgery
Gum graft surgery is necessary when the gum is recessed on the tooth neck. A frequent cause of gum recession is horizontal toothbrushing done with hard bristles. Due to gum recession, the tissue that surrounds the teeth pulls away from the tooth, this way exposing the tooth’s root. Teeth then seem to be longer and become more sensitive to hot,cold, sweet or sour food.
Thanks to today’s modern dentistry, there’s a solution for that. Our periodontist performs gum graft / gum correction surgeries. Exposed tooth surfaces can be covered with your own gum tissue. In such cases, we graft gum tissues from other areas of the oral cavity where the tissue is thicker - e.g. from the palate or the area behind the wisdom teeth. This operation might also be performed using other anti-allergy, synthetic materials. This surgical intervention is carried out under local anaesthesia and it’s always painless.
