We use IQAIR the premium air purifier

Swiss IQAIR air purifier helps to fight the coronavirus in our dental office. The IQAIR mobile air filter has been proven to filter out virus molecules effectively.

During most dental treatments, aerosols are formed, as drills and handpieces must be used with water cooling, a significant amount of aerosol is also formed by simple tartar removal. We have also adapted to the changes generated by COVID-19, both at the level of procedural protocols and at the level of technological equipment. Using enhanced infection control, we act technically as if all patients were confirmed to be infected. (Note that this works similarly under normal circumstances, only in the time of the current coronavirus epidemic, a paradigm shift seems to be taking place. It's not the first time that dentists have to adapt to new kinds of infections.)

Why is air purification so important for dental offices?

During treatment, due to the formation of aerosols, a kind of invisible "cloud" is formed around the patient, which contains viruses and bacteria, without extraction and ventilation they remain in the treatment room and pathogens that cause more infectious, contagious droplet infections pose a risk to both staff and patients. To reduce this risk, dentists use suction unites directly during treatment, respectively. We also need to ensure the continuous ventilation of the operating room. This is prescribed by the Hungarian authority, in our practice, automatic air handling worked (and still works) in all of our treatment rooms and in the waiting room as well.

We have decided to increase safety and have introduced extra air purification, retaining all the methods that have been proven useful so far. After reviewing devices available on the market, a world-renowned air pollution control system has been purchased. which has a proven ability to control viruses and it's increasingly used in the fight against coronavirus, this applies to cultivated areas and at the hospitals (Tongij Hospital, Wuhan Union Hospital).

In 2003, IQAir devices played a key role in stopping the spread of the SARS virus. The Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HKHA) has sought an immediate and effective solution to curb the spread of the virus in hospital facilities, and only IQAir devices have been able to provide an effective solution.

Why did we choose the IQAir medical air purifier? The key is HyperHEPA filtering technology.

Even under normal conditions, many harmful molecules and particles are found in the air, including heavy and fine dust, fungal spores, pollen, allergens, bacteria, and fly ash. These are the particles in the air that are more or less filtered out by most air purifiers. On the other hand, IQAir guarantees a better life quality for its users by filtering a number of additional particles.

Removes completely from the air:

  • cigarette smoke,
  • the oil smoke,
  • soot from the combustion of petroleum products,
  • the smog,
  • the bacteria,
  • and viruses and ultrafine molecules; and
  • also unpleasant odors.

Ultrafine particles are those with a size of fewer than 0.1 microns. They are associated with diseases such as stroke, heart attack, or even asthma. The device is able to filter out about 99.5% of these harmful particles in the air, up to 0.003 microns in size. It is able to capture 100 times smaller particles in terms of filtration efficiency than a normal HEPA air purifier and is also effective at 10 times smaller size than the virus.

It also performs well against odors, which is great news for those who dislike the characteristic odor of the doctor’s office.

IQAir’s custom-assembled and certified filter system is currently the only device capable of effectively filtering even these very small particles out of the air. To do this, it uses a complex, custom-developed mechanical HyperHEPA filter system. Not to be confused with normal, classic simple air purifiers.

According to our enhanced infection control protocol, we also use a significant amount of disinfectant after each treatment (disinfecting the entire room), so the chemical load is also high in the air. Ensuring clean air is in our mutual best interest for the health of you and our employees.

The quality of the air that we breathe is one of the most important physiological conditions for all of us. The fewer allergens, microorganisms, and chemical contaminants we allow in our bodies, the more we can live healthy lives.
