Inlay/Onlay, outstanding solution instead of fillings
These kind of prosthesis are used when the tooth is reduced to the extent that a composite filling wouldn’t be enough to restore it appropriately.
Using inlays, we can achieve the perfect anatomic shape and colour as well as the ideal contact point with the adjacent teeth. Contrary to dental fillings, inlays don’t shrink and they can perfectly close on the edges of the tooth. We often suggest this solution when the patient needs a root canal treatment since covering the whole chewing surface using onlay makes the tooth resistant to fracture.
What is it made of?
Inlays can be made of composite, ceramics and gold. (Patients rarely choose gold inlays/onlays though we can achieve the best closing using this type of prosthesis.)
How is it done?
The first step of inlay creation is drilling a hole on the given tooth. Then, we take an imprint of both of the jawbones which will be the base of the silicone index that the dental technician will use to perfectly reproduce the position of the teeth. This way, the expert can model an inlay of the ideal height and shape. We also define the inlay’s colour during the first consultation.
