Crown, Bridge

Thanks to the development of technology and dental surgery, dentures today already satisfy the highest aesthetic requirements. Besides that, we can choose from various solutions to treat a wide variety of toothlessness. Our professional crew is experienced in making all kinds of dental prosthesis. The replacement of missing teeth is not only important because of the recently significant aesthetic aspect. Owing to more extensive tooth loss, chewing will be inadequate - thus, it might generate gastrointestinal disturbances later on, not to mention mandibular disorders. Even a single missing tooth might cause disturbance in the masticatory organ. Teeth that border the gap start to lean inwards since they are trying to close the empty space. If the lower tooth is missing, the neighbouring ones will be slacken. The more we procrastinate having a denture, the sooner bone destruction might start.

Crown

A dental prosthesis that restores only the crown part of the tooth is called a single crown. Crown production is necessary when so much bone material is missing from the tooth that it couldn’t be reconstructed with dental filling. In such cases, we prepare (polish) the tooth using diamond abrasive tools and take an imprint of the jawbone, including the affected area. In all cases, an imprint must be taken of both jawbones including a silicone index with which we capture the relative position of the jawbones. Then we send them to the dental technical laboratory. This is where sample preparation is made with the help of the imprints and the dental technician handcrafts the crown. Colour definition of the tooth is another important step here that we always do together with the patient. We often send photos to the laboratory so that our technician can copy the unique anatomical features onto the the prosthesis under preparation.

Implant crowns

When it comes to a root canal treated tooth or a tooth which does not have much intact bone tissue left, the crown can only be attached after an implant is set up. This can be done in several ways. In all cases, we place an adhesive implant (‘stick’) in the prepared root canal. This implant could be made of metal or handcrafted by the dental technician - in this case the metal implant is a part of the stub which replaces the missing crown area of the tooth. Then, everything goes on with the steps of dental crown creation. With the application of the already indispensable fibreglass implants, we can achieve a qualitatively and aesthetically excellent result. We remove a part of the filling from the root canal and we reshape it according to the implant that we glue in later on. The implant is pasted in the root canal in accordance with the already known method. We build up the stub around this fiberglass implant and the tooth is ready to receive the crown.

The advantages of shoulder preparation

Our dentists use the shoulder preparation technique to make teeth ready to receive the crown. Contrary to the old methods, this manner has several advantages. It’s a much more gentle procedure for the tissues since in contrast to the old polishing types, the edge of the crown won’t go under the gum. For this reason, shoulder prepared crowns won’t cause gingivitis or make the cleaning of your teeth more complicated. The shoulder that is prepared in the tooth provides sufficient space for the crown edges. Thus, the crown won’t have protruding margins and the grayish color of the metal ceramic crown won’t shine through which would be aesthetically disadvantageous when smiling.

Crown materials

As far as the material is concerned, our dentists make various types of crowns, such as metal ceramic crown where the frame is made of metal alloys and is covered with porcelain. The most aesthetic result can be achieved with zirconium crowns and press ceramic crowns. When it comes to zirconium ceramics, the crown frame is made of zirconium which is a completely white material. Then, this frame is covered with ceramics or zirconium. The most frequent crown type used in the front area is the press ceramic crown that is completely made of ceramics. It’s totally metal free and provides an outstanding aesthetic result.

Certain dentures are made with the help of CAD / CAM technology. In such cases, a milling machine sculpts out the prosthesis on the basis of a plan designed in a planning software.

Temporary crown

For the period between the preparation and the delivery of the final crown, a temporary crown is created. We can make it immediately of plastic-based materials as you are sitting in the dental chair or the laboratory might also handcraft the crown of varying strength materials. Laboratory-made temporary crowns are usually created when the given crown is not intended for permanent use but we need to wait until the final crown is ready. Thanks to the temporary crown, tooth sensitivity is preventable.

Other indications

Another possible indication of making a dental crown could be the fitting of a removable denture. For example, telescopic crowns, crowns that hold the buckles or when the crown is a part of the attached denture.

Bridge

The most commonly used type of denture is the dental bridge. In such cases, we polish the teeth that border the gap using diamond abrasive tools, then we take imprints. The body of the bridge that replaces the missing teeth is surrounded by the abutment teeth (the teeth that border the gap). The bridge is glued on the teeth, its disadvantage compared to implant-supported dentures is the fact that it’s necessary to polish the surrounding teeth - in certain cases, even the healthy ones. Its material might be metal ceramics, zirconium-ceramics, pure ceramics and pure zirconium.

We can’t emphasize enough that the lifetime of each denture is defined by the development of adequate cleaning and caring procedures. Our dentists expound these techniques in the context of customized education.
