Root resection - the surgical removal of the root end
It might occur that the tissues around the root end have problems with healing despite having undergone a root canal treatment which was done with the most modern materials and technique. In such cases, root resection might be a solution. This is a treatment that supports the recovery of the tissues around the root end. During this surgery, the dental surgeon raises the gums, then removes the tip of the root including the inflamed areas and reunites the soft tissues at the end.
After surgery, we keep the recovery under tight control. Again, we can’t emphasize enough how important adequate oral hygiene is from the aspect of post-operative recovery.
